Water Main Break Causes Chaos in DeKalb County

Growing up in Scottdale, GA, has always meant a close-knit community where everyone knows each other's names. Today, that sense of familiarity has been disrupted by a water main break on McLendon Drive, casting a shadow over our peaceful town. At 8:40 a.m., news broke of a compromised power pole on the 800 block of McLendon Drive. As a Scottdale native, the mere mention of our streets and landmarks in the unfolding crisis brings an unexpected sense of vulnerability. Georgia Power is racing to secure the pole, allowing DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews to tackle the broken water main. The impact is profound, touching the core of our community. Avondale Estates City Hall is closed, and local businesses are grappling with the fallout. However, what hits closest to home is the effect on our schools. Avondale Elementary, DeKalb Elementary School of the Arts, DeKalb School of the Arts, McClendon Elementary, and Robert Shaw Elementary, the very institutions that sha
